The Greatest Smile
I want to share with you an inspiring drawing I made of my teacher, the Rebbe.
For a long time, I was searching for an inspiring image of the Rebbe's smile. Several months ago, I finally reached the perfect moment skimming through recollections of his memory.
I am not the type of artist who can casually sketch at any given moment or at anytime. Usually, I choose my subject in advance and think about it for a while before beginning to draw the figure on paper. Sometimes this process of visualization and meditation can take me weeks, even months before I begin to draw.
This particular moment of the Rebbe smiling took place during the day the Chabad community of Crown Heights was celebrating its groundbreaking expansion of 770, the Rebbe’s headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. Several hours before the ceremony, developer and close friend David Chase asked the Rebbe to honour the event by saying a few words.
The Rebbe with his smile answered, "yes," on condition that, he, Mr. Chase would also say a few words to him in Yiddish.
